Planning a road trip this summer?

If you’re thinking of getting away in your Motability Scheme car during the warmer weather, here are a few ideas that may come in handy.

Inspiration

The brand new edition of The Rough Guide to Accessible Britain is packed with more than 2,000 recommendations for great days out, major attractions and adventurous experiences! The vivid accounts of inspirational places to visit are written by reviewers with disabilities and include practical tips for getting around too.

Just in case

You may have a SatNav which needs charging in advance. But it’s always a good idea to carry a printed map with you too, just in case your SatNav isn’t working.

Pack a mobile phone charger too so that you’ll always be able to call for assistance if you need it, and if you are unsure of your exact location, RAC can track the mobile phone signal and find you.

Sometimes, sitting in a car for a long time can leave you feeling dehydrated. You might want to bring a few bottles of water and some food so you can stop wherever you like for refreshments. Store these in a cooler if you have one to keep them fresh throughout the journey.

Enjoying the drive

If it’s a long journey, picking up some music or a couple audio books to enjoy while you’re in the driver’s seat could be fun.

For kids looking for help passing the time, why not bring a few car games along for the journey? You can download a free game from the Rough Guide to Accessible Britain website.

Finally, don’t forget to take regular breaks where you get out of the car for some fresh air and movement.

Happy motoring!
