COVID-19 update: £50 insurance-based refund payments starting this week

Hopefully you’ve heard that we are sending an insurance-based refund of £50 to all customers that joined the Scheme before 4 January 2021 due a reduction in insurance claims during recent lockdowns.

We’re now pleased to confirm that payments will be starting this week, so we wanted to outline the timescales for when you can expect your refund to arrive.

Payments by bank transfer

We offered customers the option to receive this payment by bank transfer if you saved your bank details within your Motability Scheme online account by 11 June 2021.

If you entered your bank details within your account, your payment should be sent to you between 17 June 2021 and 22 June 2021.

This will show on your bank statement as being paid by ‘Motability Operations’ and will also feature a unique eight-digit payment reference number.

We will also send a remittance email showing the details of the payment which you can keep for your records. Please note it may take up to five days for the payment to arrive after you receive this email.

If you didn’t save your bank details in your online account by 11 June 2021, we will not be able to send this refund to you by bank transfer. However, you can still save your bank details in your account to receive any future payment or refunds, such as the Good Condition Bonus, by bank transfer.

Payments by cheque

If you haven’t saved your bank details within your Motability Scheme online account, we will send your refund by cheque instead.

Cheque payments will start to be sent from 24 June 2021 and will continue until the end of July 2021. Your cheque will arrive with a letter entitled ‘COVID-19 insurance rebate’. Please be aware we are unable to advise when an individual cheque will be sent or received.

If you are unable to visit a branch to cash your cheque, you should speak to your bank to see what other options they have available. A number of banks now offer alternative ways of cashing cheques, such as through your smartphone banking app or filling out a paying-in slip and posting back to the bank along with the cheque. If you are unsure what services your bank offers to help you cash cheques, more details should be available on their website.

Please be aware that we will not reissue the cheque in another person’s name.
