Where to find rapid charging points near you

Switching to an electric vehicle (EV) is an exciting step towards sustainable travel. With numerous apps available to help find charging points, we’re here to help you make the most of them and enjoy smooth and straightforward journeys.

Here’s how to quickly and confidently find rapid chargepoints using the Motability Go Charge app

Find charging stations easily with Motability Go Charge

The Motability Go Charge app makes finding charging points simple and easy. It helps you find chargers based on how quickly they charge your car, the type of plug they use, and your car’s specific needs.

With smart search filters, you can quickly find the nearest and fastest charging stations. The app checks if the chargers match your car’s plug, so you do not waste time at a charger that will not fit. Once you pick a charger, the app gives you clear directions right to it, making your journey easy and worry-free.

Each charger displays an update timestamp and a cost of £0.87 per kWh. Buttons for 'Charge' and 'Directions' are shown at the bottom.Mobile app screen showing electric vehicle charger filter options. Understanding charging speeds: rapid vs fast

Choosing the right type of charger depends on your needs:

Rapid chargers

✅ Ideal for quick top-ups: a 10–80% charge usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, according to the RAC
✅ Handy for short stops, like food shops at Sainsbury’s or motorway breaks at GridServe hubs
✅ Makes the most of your time while you’re out
❌ Often more expensive to use than other charger types

Fast chargers

✅ Great for overnight charging. Slower but steady
✅ Commonly found on residential streets and lampposts in towns and cities
✅ Perfect if you do not have a home charger
✅ Wake up to a full battery, ready to go
❌ Not suitable if you need a quick charge mid-journey

Secure public charging

When using public charging points, you can feel confident knowing your EV’s built-in security features lock the charging cable firmly in place once connected. This ensures the charger cannot be removed by anyone other than you, providing reassurance when leaving your vehicle charging in public areas.

Getting started with Go Charge

Getting started with Go Charge is simple. The app brings thousands of public chargepoints together in one place, making it easier to charge your electric vehicle on the go.

Once you’ve downloaded it, you’ll be able to:

  • See which chargepoints are nearby and whether they’re available
  • Start and stop a charge from your phone
  • Check prices before you plug in

You can also track your charging history and view past journeys. It’s all designed to give you more confidence on the road, and support you as you switch to electric.
