Making the most of your dealer visit

Getting a new car is a big decision, and for some people finding the right one can be a difficult choice to make. This is just one of the reasons we insist every dealership has Motability Scheme Specialists on hand to advise you on which car best suits your needs and to help you every step of the way.

Dealer training

Before anyone can become a Motability Scheme specialist, they have to complete a series of on-line training modules, pass a test which is followed by a one day classroom training course. Each Scheme specialist then attends refresher training every 2 years to ensure that their knowledge is up to date. All this ensures that the dealers provide you with all the service and support that you need to select, maintain and return your car at the end of your lease.

Finding a dealer

There are over 4,500 Motability dealerships in the UK, and each has at least one Motability Specialist who will assist you and provide advice on which car best suits your needs. If you’re new to the Scheme, you can find your local dealer by using our Find a Dealer tool. You can search by town, postcode or a particular manufacturer.

The Find a Dealer tool is also useful for customers who are thinking about getting their next car. We know many of our customers build really good relationships with their dealer throughout their agreement, but if you’re due to renew your lease and are interested in exploring other manufacturers or you’ve moved to a different location, you don’t have to stay with your current dealer – you can visit as many as you need to before making your decision.

Visiting your dealer

Your visit with the dealer is the most important stage, so once you’ve chosen your dealer; contact them to book an appointment to ensure that a Motability Scheme specialist is available when you visit. Taking a test drive is the best way to check the car is right for your needs so check with the dealership which cars they have available to test drive – your dealer will be more than happy to make an appointment for you to do this. The Scheme specialist is there to guide you through the whole process, so during the visit make sure you make the most of their expertise and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions, such as any technology developments or optional extras that are available. Then once you’ve made your decision, the dealer will order the car and arrange delivery and a date for collection.

Use the Car search to see the full list of vehicles available on the Motability Scheme or narrow down your options using the various filter options.
