Update for customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland

From 1 September 2026, changes to new Motability Scheme leases will take effect for customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland.

We had to make these changes to the Scheme in response to tax changes introduced by the UK Government in the 2025 Autumn Budget.

These changes came into effect for customers in the rest of the UK on 1 July 2026.

Why is this different for customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland?

The Motability Scheme operates under a separate agreement in Scotland, called the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme (AVES).

Customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland were contacted in June 2026 to explain that these changes would not apply while discussions with the Scottish Government continued.

These discussions have now concluded, and we can confirm that the Scheme changes will take effect for customers receiving a Scottish allowance from Tuesday 1 September 2026.

What does this mean for customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland?

If you recently placed an order, or place an order before 1 September 2026, the current lease terms will apply.
