Four people, including two wearing Brentford FC shirts, stand smiling at a football stadium holding a green banner that reads “Unite For Access – For disabled sports fans” and “Level Playing Field.” The crowd and match can be seen in the background under stadium lights.

Celebrating accessibility at the Blue Badge Access Awards

At the Motability Scheme, we are all about making life more accessible and inclusive. That’s why we were proud to sponsor and judge at this year’s Blue Badge Access Awards.

The Blue Badge Access Awards are a brilliant way to spotlight venues which are leading the way in catering for all.

This year, judges from our enABLE network were tasked with choosing a winner in the Best Day Out category. Our enABLE network is a community of colleagues with disabilities and/or mental health conditions, and their allies.

The contenders in this category did not just think about accessibility. They went above and beyond to make sure visitors had a great experience. In fact, our judges were so impressed, they chose two winners.

Frameless: Art for everyone

A young man in a red hoodie and gloves stands in front of a large, immersive digital projection of a colourful impressionist-style painting. He wears headphones and smiles while admiring the vibrant blue and yellow display.

Frameless is a digital art show in central London. But it is not just about looking at pictures. It is a full-on experience for your eyes, ears and imagination.

Our judges loved how Frameless makes it easy for everyone to enjoy art. The venue has step-free access, plenty of seating, and brilliant staff who are trained to support all visitors.

Frameless also listens. They take on feedback from visitors and staff who have lived experience of disability and make changes that really matter. It all adds up to a visit that is exciting, thoughtful and welcoming, no matter your age or ability.

Brentford FC: Scoring goals in accessibility

A young Brentford FC fan in a wheelchair leads the football team onto the pitch alongside players in red-and-white and yellow kits. The stadium is filled with spectators, and team members walk out from the dugout behind him.

A double win for accessibility

Our judges were so impressed by both Frameless and Brentford FC, they gave the top prize to both of them.

Well done to Frameless and Brentford FC for leading the way. And a big congratulations to Centre:MK, who were highly commended, and Blenheim Palace for their brilliant entry too.
