Discover the power of sport with Scottish Disability Sport at their first National Exhibition Event

Thinking about trying something new? Scottish Disability Sport can help you get started.

Sport can do amazing things. It helps us feel confident, connected and part of something bigger. And Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) is making sure more people across the country can experience that.

If you’re looking for a new way to get active, meet people or just have some fun, this could be a great place to start. Meet para-swimmer Laura Pilkington and find out more about a brilliant event that could help you begin your own journey.

Laura Pilkington: the power of sport and finding your place

Ever thought about trying a new sport or activity but not sure where to begin? Laura Pilkington was in the same position once. Now she’s an accomplished para-swimmer who is passionate about helping others get involved.

Laura first discovered her love for swimming when she was 13. Since then, she’s competed across Scotland and the UK and now trains with the University of Edinburgh’s Performance Swimming Team.

But she’s also making a real difference away from the pool.

Laura works with SDS as a UK Disability Inclusion Training Tutor and serves as an Athlete Mentor with the Youth Sports Trust. She’s also part of the SDS Board, helping to make sport more inclusive and accessible for disabled people.

“Sport has had such a positive impact on me socially and physically,” Laura says. “Feeling like I’m part of something bigger is incredibly important.”

Her advice for anyone thinking about taking part? “Just give it a go!”
