You may be aware of some changes to the way fuel consumption and vehicle emissions are tested for new vehicles. The new test, called the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), aims to set more realistic testing conditions, so that lab measurements are more likely to reflect the on-road performance of a car.
WLTP will mean that fuel consumption and emissions values published for new cars are likely to look higher than under the current testing process. It’s important to note however that this is just a change of test data – it won’t have any effect on, or change the actual performance of, the vehicle.
The new test is being introduced in phases from September 2017 to January 2019, when all new registrations will display the new WLTP figures. During this time you may see some changes to the manufacturers’ quoted figures as they move to the new test results.
Most manufacturers will have information on their websites where you will find more detailed information on their transition to WLTP, or ask your dealer.
Vehicle availability
As manufacturers prepare for this transition, the wider car market is experiencing longer delivery times on some makes and models. However, if you’re a Scheme customer looking for your next vehicle, don’t forget we can lease extend your existing vehicle if the timescales for your chosen vehicle extend beyond the end of your current lease.
