Kwik Fit Motability Scheme

Introducing Kwik Fit’s Motability Scheme team

Did you know that Kwik Fit have an in-house team dedicated to helping Motability Scheme customers? Read all about them, and how they support the Scheme, here.

It is easy to forget about car tyres, and if we do think about them, it’s hard not to take them for granted. But when tyres get worn, punctured or damaged, you could be putting yourself and other road users at risk.

So, imagine for a moment, you’re driving in your usually reliable Motability Scheme car when suddenly you get a puncture. What do you do? Well, you won’t need to panic because your vehicle is covered for assistance by RAC Motability Assist. If your tyre can’t be sorted at the roadside, RAC Motability Assist will take your car to Kwik Fit – another one of our Scheme partners.

Indeed, Kwik Fit has a team dedicated solely to helping Motability Scheme customers. So, for instance, when fixing a puncture, your nearest Kwik Fit branch will remove the tyre and examine the wheel for damage. It will then provide either a durable puncture repair or a replacement tyre for no additional cost as part of your lease. Vandalised or stolen tyres are covered at no extra charge as well. It’s also important to know that Kwik Fit helps with everyday tyre wear and tear, too – not just severe occurrences.

Kwik Fit’s Head of Customer Experience, Mary Louise Russell, explains further about how Kwik Fit supports Scheme customers in our handy question and answer session below:

How does Kwik Fit help Motability Scheme customers?

“As a Motability Scheme customer, your three-year car lease package includes replacement tyres. Therefore, tyres worn or impaired through regular use – or tyres punctured, vandalised or stolen – will be replaced for no additional cost. We view the Kwik Fit team as an extension of the service the Motability Scheme offers, so we look after everything tyre related for you.”

Do you recommend booking an appointment in advance? If so, how do you do this and what do you need to bring with you?

“Yes, it’s always beneficial to give our Kwik Fit Tyreline team a call on 0330 123 1531 initially. We can then discuss the best option for your needs. We can let you know what to expect when visiting a Kwik Fit centre, such as how long to expect to wait and what facilities there are. Alternatively, you can book your appointment online by clicking here.”

“When contacting us to make an appointment, we require two pieces of information: the car registration number and the tyre size. The tyre size is an eleven-digit number and will look something like 215/55 R16 91V. This information is found on the sidewall of the tyre. When visiting a Kwik Fit centre, you don’t need to bring any paperwork – we only require the vehicle registration.”

How can a customer be assured their replacement tyre will be in stock when they visit?

“Give our Kwik Fit Tyreline team a call on 0330 123 1531, and we’ll check which centres have your tyre in stock. Then we’ll make an appointment to suit you.”

What if you’re unable to get to a Kwik Fit centre?

“We understand that it’s not always easy to get to a Kwik Fit centre. Therefore, we have a mobile service which allows you to have a tyre fitted at, for example, your home, or while you’re at work. You do need to make a booking in advance for this, which can be arranged through our team. The mobile service is only able to replace tyres, not repair punctures”

“To allow us to make the booking we need a few pieces of information such as vehicle registration, the postcode we are coming out to and the tyre size. To arrange an appointment for one of Kwik Fit’s mobile fitting units to replace tyres at no cost, call 0330 123 1533.”

“We’ll try our best to accommodate a same-day booking. We can make an appointment for our mobile service up to 2pm on the day. However, if we’re unable to attend the same day, we can look at alternative options like getting the RAC out.”

“As long as we have availability and stock, we should be able to get your car into a centre the same day. Kwik Fit mobile isn’t a emergency service, though, so if you’re out and can’t continue due to a tyre issue, you should contact RAC Motability Assist on 0800 73 111 73.”

What are the legal requirements for tyres and at what tread depth does Kwik Fit recommend replacing them?

“The legal requirement is 1.6mm of tread depth; however, we would recommend getting a tyre changed at 2mm. To check your tyre tread depth, put a 20p coin into the tread grooves of the tyre.”

“If the raised edge around the coin isn’t visible, your tyre’s tread is likely to be greater than 1.6mm and legal. If, conversely, the outer band of the coin can be seen when inserted, the tyre could be unsafe and will need a professional inspection.”

Will Kwik Fit always fit the same brand as was originally provided by the manufacturer? If not, how will it impact on the safety or performance of the Scheme car?

“With most cars, it’s not necessary to fit like for like. It’s perfectly safe to run on a mix of tyres, while not impacting on the performance of the vehicle. There are some exceptions, though, as certain vehicles do require tyres to be replaced like for like, and with these, we’ll ensure the same brand is fitted. Furthermore, we endeavour to fit a premium tyre on every occasion.”

Is there a “fair usage” policy and, if so, why?

“Regardless of how many times a tyre has been replaced, we’ll always carry out any work required. We do, of course, monitor this to ensure the Motability Scheme is not being abused.”
