The government has recently launched a new grant for some low-emission or zero-emission vehicles. If you’re thinking about getting an electric car through the Motability Scheme, here’s what you need to know.
Which cars are eligible?
The grant gives the seller (usually the car manufacturer) up to £3,750 off some new electric vehicles (EVs). It only applies to cars that meet certain criteria.
Eligible cars will be published on the Government website and eligible Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) will be published here.
If a car qualifies and it’s available on the Motability Scheme, it’s up to the manufacturer to decide if they want to change the Advance Payment.
As with any grant, we’ll always pass on any savings directly to the customer. Scheme pricing will be kept up-to-date on our website.
What does this mean for me?
- If a car becomes eligible for the grant, it will not necessarily mean the Advance Payment will change. This is subject to the manufacturer’s discretion. In many cases, as we update our prices every three months the best possible deals have already been applied for Scheme customers and won’t change until they are reviewed again next quarter
- Our website is the best place to check the latest Scheme prices. Our price guarantee means we freeze the price of the vehicle at the time you apply
- If you already have an EV on the Scheme, you will not be eligible for the grant. Any changes to the Advance Payment will only apply to new applications
- If you’re about to place an application for a new lease (or have already placed an application), you can still order a car as normal. If the car you choose later qualifies for the grant, there’s no change to the pricing of your application
- The best way to see up-to-date prices and the latest vehicle range is to visit our website
Will more cars be eligible in future?
We expect more vehicles will become eligible over time. The government has said the grant will run until 2028 or 2029, but this depends on available funding.
