Your next car service: what you need to know

Is your car ready for its next checkup? We include regular servicing as part your Motability Scheme all-inclusive package to help keep you moving and safe. Here’s what to expect at your next vehicle service.

Here’s everything you need to know about servicing your car:

What is a car service?

It’s a regular health check for your carelectric vehicle (EV), or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

A technician will test parts of your vehicle to make sure they’re working well. They’ll check everything from your tyres to your brake fluid.

Your regular services help make you safe and keep your vehicle running smoothly and reliably.

When your Scheme vehicle needs a service

Your service schedule depends on which car you have, so it might be different to your last vehicle.

Here’s how you can check when your service is due:

  • Your Motability Scheme online account: find the date for your next service in ‘Current lease’

  • Your manufacturer’s handbook: get this from your dealer when you pick up your vehicle. There’s usually a section about servicing

  • Service dates: check your online account. Or contact your dealer. They can help you book one

  • Still not sure? if you’ve checked your online account, handbook, and reminders, and you’re still not sure when your service is, speak to your dealer

Have a WAV?

Your supplier will check your WAV for free at your home every year. They’ll reach out to you to let you know when it’s due.

They’ll check things like your WAV’s ramp or lift, to make sure they’re working correctly and still meet your needs.

What’s included in your service

Servicing is included in your Scheme lease as part of your all-inclusive package. You just need to book your vehicle in with your local dealer.

Here’s what they’ll usually check:

  • Engine oil

  • Windscreen washer fluid

  • Engine cooling system

  • Lights

  • Tyre tread

  • Tyre pressure, including your spare tyre, if you have one

Your service technician will check certain things based on which vehicle you have. If the manufacturer for your car recommends checking something specific, then they’ll check it.

What to expect on the day

Just turn up at the time you’re booked in. Your dealer will take the keys off you, then they’ll handle the rest.

The good news is your dealer might be able to service your car while you wait. If it’ll take some time, get a friend or family member to help you get there and back, if you can.

How servicing keeps you moving

We cover servicing for you so you can confidently stay mobile.

Here’s why servicing matters:

  • Regular checks keep your vehicle safe, reliable, and performing at its best

  • Every Scheme car has a three-year warranty. We cover routine mechanical issues

  • If a problem happens and your car has not been serviced, this could affect your warranty

  • If the manufacturer does not agree to cover the repair costs, we might ask you to pay instead

  • You can avoid warranty issues and follow the terms of your lease by servicing your car when it needs one

Text explains that servicing is a yearly health check, it is included in the all inclusive lease package, and details on when to book can be found in an online account or vehicle handbook. It also notes that WAV suppliers can service vehicles at home.

Quick answers to common servicing questions

How long does a car service take?

It takes anywhere between 90 minutes and four hours. That’s because your technician will check different things. It also depends on what needs fixing and how long each repair takes.

How often do I need to service my car?

It’s once each year. But it depends on how many miles you drive, so check your mileage. If you drive a lot, you might need to ask for a service sooner.

You can check when your service is due in your online account

What about my MOT?

We cover your MOT in your Scheme lease too. You can check when your MOT is due in your online account. Or contact your dealer or supplier towards the end of your lease.

If this has not happened, please contact them as soon as possible. You can also see your MOT date in your online account

Check your services in your online account

Did you know you can see when your vehicle needs a service or MOT in your Motability Scheme online account? We’ll remind you when it’s close.

You can see your old services and MOTs too.
