Regular servicing is included in your Motability Scheme lease to help keep you moving. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s service schedule to keep your vehicle running smoothly and avoid any warranty problems.
Here’s everything you need to know about servicing:
How often should your Motability Scheme vehicle be serviced?
Service schedules will vary between cars and manufacturers, so they may be different from your last vehicle.
It usually depends on how many miles you drive or a set amount of time. For example, it could be every 10,000 miles or once a year. Often, it’ll be whichever of these comes first.
Here’s how you can check when your service is due:
- Your Motability Scheme online account: You’ll find the date for your next service in the ‘Current lease’ section.
- Your manufacturer’s handbook: You should get this from your dealer when you pick up the vehicle. There’s usually a section in this that explains servicing.
- Contact your dealer: Your retailer will know when your service is due. Sometimes the workshop might contact you directly to arrange things.
- Service reminders: Your dealer will usually remind you when a service is due. Make sure you book one with your dealer when you get a reminder.
It’s also a good idea to check your mileage. If you drive a lot, you may need to ask for a service sooner.
If your dealer has not contacted you when your service is due, give them a call.
Why it’s important to get your vehicle serviced
All Motability Scheme cars have a three-year warranty. This means routine mechanical issues are covered.
But if a problem occurs and the car has not been serviced, this could affect the warranty. If the manufacturer does not agree to cover the repair costs, you may be asked to pay for this instead.
Keeping to your service schedule helps avoid any warranty issues and follow the terms of your lease. It also keeps your vehicle in good condition and reduces safety risks.
What’s included in your service?
Services will usually include checks on:
- Engine oil
- Windscreen washer fluid
- Engine cooling system
- Lights
- Tyre tread
- Tyre pressure – including the spare tyre
The service also depends on the type of vehicle. For example, technicians will only check the brake pads or filters if the manufacturer recommends doing so.
