World Toilet Day 2025: Why accessible and safe toilets matter

Everyone should be able to use a toilet safely. For many disabled people, it’s a daily barrier that can stop them going out, staying safe or living independently.

World Toilet Day is on 19 November 2025. This year, we’re proud to support our partner Euan’s Guide, a disabled access charity working to make accessible toilets safer through their Safer Toilets Scheme

A safer toilet starts with the Red Cord Card

In an accessible toilet, the red emergency cord is there so someone can call for help if they fall or need urgent support. But too often, these cords are tied up or cut short, putting disabled people at risk.

As part of their Safer Toilet Scheme, Euan’s Guide created Red Cord Cards as a simple reminder: the cord should hang freely to the floor, where someone can easily reach it.

Red Cord Cards are for anyone who wants to make accessible toilets safer, from businesses and venues to individuals. Businesses can order them to install in their accessible toilets. And customers can order their own pack to use or share with the places they visit.

Red Cord Cards are small, splash-proof cards that slide onto the red emergency cord in accessible toilets. They remind people why the cord should always hang freely and why they should not be tampered with.

Every time we go swimming, my daughter points out that the red cord in the changing rooms is hooked up high. I am going to put these on the red cords at our local swimming pool.”A pink graphic with the Euan’s Guide logo and text that reads: “Small card, big difference! I’ve hung loads of these cards. There are a few locations in my town – the original card is still hanging 4 years later! Proof that they work wonderfully at keeping people safe.”

It takes just a minute to order a pack of Red Cord Cards from Euan’s Guide. But it could make a big difference to someone’s safety and independence.

Since the creation of their Scheme, Euan’s Guide have reportedly helped make over 150,000 toilets safer with their Red Cord Cards. Order your Red Cord Cards today and be part of the change.

Why World Toilet Day Matters

Established in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization, World Toilet Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the global sanitation crisis.

Each year, a specific theme is set by UN-Water. The theme for World Toilet Day 2025 is “Sanitation in a changing world”, a reminder that however much the world changes, we’ll always need toilets that are safe, reliable and accessible.
