If you’ve ever experienced an issue with your Motability Scheme vehicle and required a temporary replacement, you might have been provided with a vehicle from Proximo.
Proximo are a partner of the Motability Scheme and offer a range of adapted and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) which may be offered to keep you mobile if your Scheme vehicle is off the road for more than two days.
From 1 September 2023, Proximo are making a small change to their hire process and will introduce a £1 fuel deposit for any replacement vehicles they provide.
How it works
If you’re offered a replacement vehicle from Proximo, you’ll be asked to pay a £1 fuel deposit on your debit or credit card before they can deliver your vehicle.
The £1 payment can be made over the phone when the replacement vehicle is being arranged, and once it has been returned, the deposit is simply put back on to the card that was used to pay.
You’ll just need to make sure you return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel it had when it was delivered to you, otherwise Proximo may charge your card for the fuel you’ve used.
Proximo have introduced this fuel deposit to bring their process in line with other Scheme partners, such as Europcar.

The £1 deposit is only for fuel, so if you incur any fines or other charges in your hire vehicle, these will not be charged to your card, and you’ll need to pay these separately.
If you do not have a credit or debit card
If you do not have a debit or credit card to pay the fuel deposit, Proximo will not be able to supply you with a temporary replacement vehicle, but we will always try to find an alternative solution to help you stay mobile.
