We introduced the New Vehicle Payment last year to help with the rising costs of getting a new vehicle on the Motability Scheme. On 1 March 2023, we increased this payment to £750.
Now, we’re giving you the option to send your New Vehicle Payment directly to your dealer, to help towards the cost of your Advance Payment.
This is instead of getting the New Vehicle Payment a few weeks after you’ve picked up your new vehicle and already paid your Advance Payment.
We hope that giving you this option will make it easier for you to order your next vehicle on the Scheme.
Find out if you’re eligible to receive our New Vehicle Payment by answering a few simple questions
How it works
If you’re eligible for the New Vehicle Payment, you can now choose for this to be sent directly to your dealer to help towards the cost of some, or all, of your Advance Payment.
Your dealer will ask if you’d like to do this when you’re ordering your new car or WAV.
If you choose to send your New Vehicle Payment to your dealer, we’ll arrange this for you before your new car is ready, so you do not need to do anything.
We’ll also confirm this in the letter we send to you once your order has been accepted.
If your Advance Payment is more than £750
You’ll need to pay the difference between the New Vehicle Payment and your Advance Payment to your dealer when you get your new vehicle.
For example, if you order a vehicle with a £1000 Advance Payment and choose to send your New Vehicle Payment to your dealer, you’d have £250 left to pay when you get your new vehicle.
If your Advance Payment is less than £750
We’ll send the difference to you within a week or two of you getting your new vehicle.
For example, if you order a vehicle with a £500 Advance Payment and choose to send your New Vehicle Payment to your dealer, we’ll send the remaining £250 to you within a week or so of you getting your new vehicle.
We’ll send this by bank transfer if you’ve saved your bank details in your Motability Scheme online account. If not, we’ll send a cheque.
What if I choose not to send my New Vehicle Payment to my dealer? |
We’ll send it to you in full shortly after you get your new vehicle.
We’ll do this by bank transfer if you’ve saved your bank details in your Motability Scheme online account.
If we do not have your bank details, we’ll send a cheque instead.
This will all be taken care of automatically, so you don’t need to contact us about this.
I’ve already ordered my new car or WAV. Can I still put my New Vehicle Payment towards my Advance Payment? |
Yes, if you’ve already ordered your new car or WAV and would now like to put your New Vehicle Payment towards your Advance Payment, please contact your dealer directly to discuss this.
The New Vehicle Payment is only available once per customer, so if you’ve already received this payment, you will not receive it again for your next lease.
Can I send my New Vehicle Payment directly to my dealer to help with the cost of adaptations or optional extras? |
No. Currently you can only choose to send your New Vehicle Payment to your dealer to help with the cost of your vehicle’s Advance Payment.
Can I choose to send my Good Condition Payment to my dealer too? |
No. If you’re eligible for the Good Condition Payment at the end of your lease, we’ll send this directly to you within a week or two of you returning your vehicle.
I have a scooter or powered wheelchair, can I do this with my New Product Payment too? |
Customers leasing a scooter or powered wheelchair are not affected in the same way by the rising costs of car prices and large Advance Payments, so the New Product Payment will continue to be paid after you collect your new scooter or powered wheelchair.
