Changes to the Europcar fuel deposit

If you have ever experienced an issue with your Motability Scheme vehicle and required a temporary replacement vehicle, you might be aware that a fuel deposit is required when you take delivery. For temporary vehicles supplied by Europcar this is currently £1 if paid by credit or debit card, or £50 if paid in cash, and is refunded once the vehicle is returned with a full tank of fuel.

However, from 1 April 2021, the process is changing slightly and you will no longer be able pay the fuel deposit in cash. Instead, you will only be able to pay the fuel deposit by credit or debit card.

Why are these changes being made?

Ensuring the safety of our customers and Scheme partners during the COVID-19 pandemic remains our top priority. By removing cash transactions, this helps to minimise any close contact between customers and Europcar employees.

The process for paying and refunding the fuel deposit by card is also much quicker and easier for customers than when paying by cash. The £1 payment can be made over the phone when the replacement vehicle is being arranged, and once it has been returned, the deposit is simply put back on to the card that was used to pay.

Customers without a debit or credit card

If you do not have a credit or debit card at this time, please be reassured that we will still allow fuel deposits to be paid by cash until 1 April 2021. After this date, any future fuel deposits would need to be paid using a credit or debit card.

If you are unable to pay the fuel deposit by card, Europcar will not be able to supply you with a temporary replacement vehicle, but we will try to find an alternative solution to support your continuous mobility.
