New Vehicle Payment introduced for Motability Scheme customers

With rising energy and fuel prices and other everyday living costs increasing, we have introduced a £250 ‘New Vehicle Payment’. We hope that giving customers this amount back from the price of the lease will help them to make the most of their next car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

For scooter and powered wheelchair customers, we have introduced a £100 ‘New Product Payment’.

Who is eligible for these payments?

Customers newly joining the Scheme during 2022 will receive the ‘New Vehicle Payment’ when they take delivery of their new car or WAV. This means if you take delivery of your first vehicle in 2022, or place an order during 2022, you will be eligible.

Anyone who is already a customer as of 31 December 2021 will become eligible for the payment when they take delivery of their next vehicle, whenever that may be.

The same timeframe for ordering and delivery applies to scooter and powered wheelchair customers, who will receive the £100 ‘New Product Payment’.

When will I receive my payment?

You will receive this payment shortly after you take delivery of your new car, WAV, scooter or powered wheelchair.

The payment is only available once per customer and the quickest way to receive it is by bank transfer.

You can select bank transfer as your preferred payment method in your Motability Scheme online account. Payment by bank transfer will be made within a few days of taking delivery of your new vehicle or product. The alternative option is by cheque, but this could take a couple of weeks to arrive.

To help you understand a little more about these new payments, we’ve answered a few common questions below:

I placed my order in 2021 but I’m still waiting to take delivery, will I receive this payment?

Yes, if you placed an order last year and are still waiting for this to be delivered, you will be eligible for this payment. The payment will be made within a few days of you taking delivery of your new vehicle or product.

I took delivery of my vehicle earlier in January, will I receive this payment?

Yes. We will soon be starting to make this payment to customers who have already taken delivery of a vehicle or product this year. If you have a Motability Scheme online account and have updated your payment preference to bank transfer we will make this payment to you by 4 February 2022, but please note it can take up to five days for the payment to arrive in your bank account. After this date we will send cheques to the remaining customers which will take around two weeks to arrive. From 1 February, customers will start to automatically receive this payment when handover of the vehicle or product takes place.

I’m looking to join the Scheme, but I am not quite ready to place an order. When I am ready, what will happen if my vehicle doesn’t arrive until 2023?

There’s no rush to place an order, we recommend taking your time and looking at all options that are available that might be best suited to your needs. For some customers this can take several months. As long as you place your first order before the end of 2022 you will still be eligible for this payment, even if you don’t take delivery until 2023.

I took delivery of my new vehicle just before the end of 2021, can I get this payment now?

If you had already taken delivery of your vehicle or product before the end of 2021, you will not receive this payment until you come to collect your next car, WAV, scooter or powered wheelchair at the end of your current lease. However, even if you do not collect your next vehicle or product for a number of years you will still qualify for this payment, providing you were a customer on the Scheme as of 31 December 2021.

Will this payment affect my Good Condition Bonus?

No, this payment is separate and will not affect your eligibility for the Good Condition Bonus, or End of Contract Bonus for scooter and powered wheelchair customers, or the amount you receive.

I want to receive my payment by bank transfer – what do I need to do?

To receive your payment by bank transfer, please make sure you’ve updated your payment preference in your Motability Scheme online account.

Log in or create an account then go to the ‘Personal details’ section to enter your bank details and choose payments by bank transfer. We’ll then make this payment, and other payments you are entitled to during your lease, by bank transfer rather than cheque.

Please be reassured we will only ever use your bank details to make payments or refunds to you, and your details will be encrypted and held securely once you save them in your account.

If you’ve already updated your preference to bank transfer, please double check your details are still correct before you return your vehicle or product. You can easily update these in your online account if they have changed.
